![]() ![]() I have a mac book pro, purchased in early 2012 and I have had same problem with DVDs not playing and if they play they 'skip over damaged area' which isn't really damaged (note that I only noticed this 1 month past warranty date). From what I've read it seems that OSX 10.8.3 has some issues with power saving settings (for example, my computer takes a much longer time to wake up from sleep than my old one, and goes into hibernation mode while plugged in when it should be sleeping).ĭoes anyone know how to fix the issue with the DVD player? The "Damaged Area" hiccups seem to happen about every twenty minutes. ![]() ![]() My suspicion from doing some searching around these forums is that it may be related to the way the DVD player "sleeps" and "wakes up" the DVD drive, I assume to cache the next section of the movie. ![]() The problem lies entirely within the DVD Player app. The DVDs also play without hiccups in VLC. If I drag the progress icon back to a second after I got the "Damaged area" message, it plays fine (with the exception of one disc that is in fact seriously damaged). The problem is that nothing is wrong with these DVDs. On almost every disc I've played in it, I get a sudden hang and a message displays "Skipping over damaged area", and then the movie will skip ahead, usually about a minute and a half. On this new Mac I'm having a problem with the stock DVD player. I recently upgraded to a brand new Macbook Pro 15" from an older model Macbook (pre-Mountain Lion). ![]()
